Hydrological measuring stations awarded by the WMO

05.07.2023 - The FOEN hydrological measuring stations Thur-Andelfingen, Birs-Münchenstein and Sitter-Appenzell have been awarded as Centennial Observing Stations in May 2023.

At its Congress in May 2023, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) awarded the three FOEN hydrological measuring stations Thur-Andelfingen, Birs-Münchenstein and Sitter-Appenzell as “Centennial Observing Stations” (COS). The COS are unique and reliable sources of information on past atmospheric and hydrological parameters, as they provide consistent and quality-controlled data over decades. They serve as a reference for assessing climate variability and change. The data are freely available.

Until now, this recognition was only awarded to meteorological stations. Hydrological measuring stations are now also part of the "Centennial Observing Stations".
